Mental wellbeing doesn’t have one set meaning. We might use it to talk about how we feel, how well we’re coping with daily life or what feels possible at the moment. Good mental wellbeing doesn’t mean you’re always happy or unaffected by your experiences. But poor mental wellbeing can make it more difficult to cope with daily life.

  • Advice for life situations and events
  • Self-help tips
  • Metal health services
  • Types of therapies, medicines and other treatments

The NHS Better Health website offers advice and practical tips to help you look after your mental health and wellbeing, you can also get your own personalised Mind Plan by answering a few quick questions.

Money worries and mental health

We know that when you are experiencing poor mental health it can often be challenging to manage your money and worrying about your finances can make your mental health worse. If you’re struggling and need some support and advice with money concerns, there are organisations out there that can help.

  • Mental Health and Money advice is a national impartial organisation has lots of advice and information on managing money, debts and benefits, as well as a toolkit to help you understand, manage and improve your mental and financial health.
  • Money Helper is government-approved online advice service, providing impartial free advice on money and debt issues.
  • Welfare Benefits helpline provides free, confidential support and advice to those who are struggling to pay bills, need help with a benefits issue, or are concerned about growing debt.
  • Citizens Advice has a range of information on their website, including information if you’re struggling with living costs.

The Samaritans provide 24/7 support to those who need someone to talk to

The Sussex Mental Healthline

The Sussex Mental Healthline offers listening support, advice, information and signposting to anyone experiencing difficulties, or who may be in crisis and in urgent need of help, with their mental health

Health in Mind

Health in Mind is a free NHS service for East Sussex residents who are experiencing stress, anxiety or low mood. You can self-refer through the website, and also find videos, top tips and free online therapy programmes

Shout Sussex

Shout Sussex is a free, confidential, 24/7 text service where people can have a text conversation with a trained volunteer. The volunteers offer real-time support to people who are anxious, stressed, depressed, suicidal or overwhelmed
